CACD held their annual Residential for members on Fri 5th and Sat 6th November at the Magherabuoy House Hotel, Portrush.
Community Change facilitated the seminars enabling the forty participants to review how effectively the needs of their respective groups are being met by CACD. A number of interactive workshops with fun activities were held looking at how communication can be improved, committee roles and responsibilites. leadership skills and motivation.

On Friday evening Jim Millar of the Ulster-Scots Agency gave a very informative presentation on the movement of Scottich settlers into Ulster and the language they brought with them.
Afterwards Dick Glasgow and friends provided workshops and entertainment on the Scottish Small Pipes , Harp, Flute,Concertina and Fiddle. Dick also played an unusual instrument named the Hammer Dulicmer which contained 64 strings. The instrument had and enchanting and beautiful medieval sound.

On Saturday our Best Practice visit started at the small rural community of Derrykeighan where the Orange hall is used by the Community Association and a separately constituted Parent and Toddler Group. This hall was renovated through the Rural Development Council Maximising Community Space Programme.

We then travelled on to Coleraine Orange hall where Coleraine 12th Fesitival Committee gave the background to the formation of the organisation in 2006 and a comprehensive presentation on their activities. The festival has consistantly grown in popularity since its inception and has become a major tourist attraction. It contains a fun filled and veired programme of events culminating in the 12th July Demonstration.
